MS and Yahoo! partner up

Microsoft and Yahoo! have partnered up on a search agreement. I like the idea of this, and I really feel like it is a better thing for the users of the net than the previous attempts from MS to purchase Yahoo! outright. With this agreement, both parties will remain its own entity however the search on Yahoo! will now be powered by Bing. What does it mean for the end user? It means more powerful search results, from the number 2 and 3 search providers working together to provide better accuracy and speed. As an avid Google user (the number 1 provider) all it means to me is that it will kick Google into gear and get them even more focused on leading the industry. The fact that the number of services they offer for free over the rival’s mentioned above sets them apart.

If you ask me, this seems like the beginning of the end for the Yahoo! squad. With their core services falling behind competitors and search being backed by MS, I think that this is just a step in the original direction of an outright purchase of Yahoo! by MS. They jumped at the lucrative 88% of ad revenue given in the deal, but are going to be just a memory within the next decade or so. Looks like the stock holders liked it, as MS stock shot up yesterday afternoon. Check out the details of the deal here.
